Comment On Clams

Q Rich Landers

Shellfish management

The first-ever Eastern Washington public meeting on razor clam management is scheduled for Wednesday in Spokane.

The meeting is set to run from 7- 9 p.m in Student Union Building No. 17 at Spokane Falls Community College, 3410 West Fort George Wright Drive.

Officials said the meeting is in response to requests for more East Side input on razor clam digging season setting. Traditional Western Washington public meetings will be announced and held later next month.

In addition to taking comments on upcoming fall clam seasons, department clam program manager Doug Simons will discuss clam population status, management techniques, tribal co-management, marine toxin closures, and new license changes.

Fall razor clam seasons will be set by October after reviewing public comments.
