One year ago: Mark McGwire of the St. Louis Cardinals broke Roger Maris’ 37-year-old record for home runs in a single season, hitting No. 62 off Chicago Cubs pitcher Steve Trachsel. The Rev.

Henry J. Lyons, leaders of the Natiolnal Baptist Convention USA and under fire for allegedly misusing millions in church funds, admitted to having an affair with a church worker.
