Churches Change Services, Programs

Children have made the annual trek back to school and now it’s time for churches to make their own fall changes. Many North Side churches are starting up their Sunday school programs on Sunday and making changes to their worship schedule.

* Messiah Lutheran Church, 4202 N. Belt, will start its normal schedule on Sunday. Worship services begin at 8 and 11 a.m., and Sunday school starts at 9:30 a.m. Youths will also be selling pies after each service.

* Worship services at Audubon Park United Methodist Church now begin at 9:30 and 11 a.m. each Sunday. Sunday school classes are held during the 9:30 service.

The church is located at 3908 N. Driscoll Blvd.

* Sunday school is in session for the fall on Sunday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1703 N. Washington. Classes begin during the Liturgy at 10 a.m. All youths are invited to an ice cream social following Sunday school.

* Sunday school for all ages begins at 9:45 a.m. Sunday at Country Homes Christian Church, 8415 N. Wall. Only one service will be offered at 11 a.m. this week, and it will be followed by a potluck dinner at 12:15 p.m. All those planning to attend are asked to bring a main dish and a salad or dessert to share as well as individual place settings.

An additional contemporary service will begin at 8:30 a.m. each Sunday beginning Sept. 19.

* Adults and children are invited to attend Sunday school at St. Peter Lutheran Church on Sunday. Classes for adults begin at 8:45, and classes for children through the sixth grade begin at 9 a.m. A service will follow at 10 a.m.

* An education hour for all ages begins at 9 a.m. Sunday at Salem Lutheran Church, 1428 W. Broadway. It will be followed by a worship service at 10:30 a.m.

The church will also host an installation service for the Rev. Richard Holmes Sunday at 4 p.m. Bishop-elect Martin Wells will preside, and all are invited to attend. A reception will follow the installation.

* Shadle Park Presbyterian Church, 5508 N. Alberta, is changing its worship schedule on Sunday. Services will begin at 9 and 10:30 a.m. each week.

Ice cream parties this weekend

* Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church, 312 W. Hawthorne Road, will host a singalong and ice cream social Sunday at 7 p.m. The event is free but reservations are requested. Call the church office at 466-0305 for reservations.

* Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 1926 W. Chelan, will host a neighborhood ice cream party Saturday at 2 p.m. The public is invited to attend and meet the church staff, learn about fall programs and tour the facility.

The church also will resume its normal worship schedule on Sunday. The service begins at 10:30 a.m. with Sunday school classes meeting during that time.

Guest speaker at Grace Baptist

Grace Baptist Church will host guest speaker Daniel Nessim from Chosen People Ministries at 6 p.m. Sunday. He will be speaking on “The Fall Feasts of Israel.” All are invited to attend.

The church is located at 1523 W. Mallon.

Fall fairs coming up

Indian Trail Community Church will host a Community Family Fun Fair Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be games, carnival booths, food, music, a dunk tank, an inflatable bouncing castle, pony rides and a climbing wall.

* St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church is planning a Fall Fest for Sept. 18. There will be German food, German music and a bake sale. The event will run from 4 to 7 p.m.
