Shirley Paces Cda To Win

Katie Jo Shirley surely had a strong volleyball match Thursday night.

Shirley had seven blocks and 10 kills, including the kill to put away the match, and Coeur d’Alene recorded a 15-3, 15-12, 15-13 non-league win at Gonzaga Prep.

CdA rallied in the second game after trailing 9-3. Sarah Biddle added nine kills and Casey Anderson five blocks for the Vikings (3-1).

In other non-league matches, Michelle Kelley’s seven kills and nine digs rallied Lakeside to a 2-1 win over Kootenai at Plummer… . Visiting Clark Fork defeated Timberlake 2-1, winning the final game 15-12. Angie Campbell had six kills and 18 assists for Timberlake.

Megan Egbert and Sarah Hansen had five kills apiece, and Sara Weller added 12 digs as Lakeland defeated visiting Bonners Ferry 2-0 in the Intermountain League.

Boys soccer

Jeff Terracciano beat a defender and fed a pass backward to Brian Bean for a goal, lifting Lake City to a 1-0 win over visiting Lakeland in the North Idaho League.

Jesse Norton assisted on the first and last goal, and scored the middle goal on a penalty kick, leading Moscow to a 3-2 non-league win at Coeur d’Alene. Both teams are 3-1. CdA was forced to play its third-string goalkeeper, Cole Schwerin, because regular starter Barrett Schwerin has a bruised hip and backup Kyle Motley couldn’t start after missing school and practice Wednesday.

Girls soccer

Jamison Link’s goal started Coeur d’Alene toward a 3-0 Border League win at West Valley.

Correction

Post Falls’ Darin Blood is a right-handed pitcher for Rochester (N.Y.), the Baltimore Orioles’ Triple-A affiliate. A column in Thursday’s edition incorrectly described Blood as a left-handed pitcher.

Washington volleyball

Kassi White had 12 kills and 18 blocks in Chewelah’s 15-6, 12-15, 15-12, 8-15, 15-9 season-opening Great Northern League volleyball win at Newport.

Newport tied Colville for the league title last year, when Chewelah was 5-9.

Newport’s Dess Wendle had 22 kills.
