(From Business Beat, September 25, 1999:) Dr. Branden R. Reynolds has joined Drs. Berg, Selinger, Leonard, Coleman & Siwek in the practice of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery. An item in the Sept. 11 Business Beat column gave an incorrect area of specialization.

New faces:

The following physicians have been accepted for membership in the Spokane County Medical Society:

Dr. Harold G. Moore has joined the Community Health Association of Spokane in the practice of family medicine. A 1989 graduate of Loma Linda University, he completed an internship and residency at Swedish Medical Center.

Dr. Steven J. Nisco has joined Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgical Associates in the practice of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery. He graduated from Stanford University in 1988 and completed an internship and residency at the Mass General Hospital. He also completed a fellowship at Stanford.

Dr. Todd M. Raudy has joined Anesthesia Associates in the practice of anesthesiology. He graduated from the Oregon Health Sciences University in 1995 and completed an internship at Sacred Heart Medical Center and a residency at the University of Washington.

Dr. Michael P. Williams has joined Heart Clinics Northwest in the practice of internal medicine. A 1993 graduate of the University of Nevada, he completed an internship and residency at Sacred Heart Medical Center. He also completed a fellowship at the University of Texas.

Dr. Natalie Ku has joined Inland Imaging in the practice of radiology. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 1993, then completed an internship at Loyola University and a residency at the University of Colorado. She also completed a fellowship at Indiana University.

Dr. Timothy P. Manson has begun practicing family medicine at Spokane Valley Family Medicine. He graduated from the University of Missouri Columbia in 1992 and completed an internship and residency at Duke University-FAHEC. He also completed a fellowship at Christiania Care Health Systems.

Dr. Branden R. Reynolds has joined Drs. Berg, Selinger, Leonard, Coleman & Siwek in the practice of general surgery. He graduated from Georgetown University in 1991 and completed an internship and residency at the University of Washington. He also completed a fellowship at the University of Washington.

Dr. Anne S. Saarheim has joined Deaconess Express Care in the practice of family medicine. She graduated from Oregon Health Sciences University in 1993 and completed an internship and residency at Family Medicine of Spokane.

Hecla Mining Co. has hired Michael H. Callahan as director of accounting and information systems. He will oversee the corporate accounting and information service departments. Callahan, who is a certified public accountant, earned a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Idaho. He was employed at Hecla from 1989 to 1996 as a senior financial analyst. He was most recently the financial manager for Silver Valley Resources in North Idaho.

Moving up:

Coeur d’Alene-based Hecla Mining Co. has promoted the following employees:

Robert H. Buckham was promoted to director of personnel. Buckham joined Hecla in 1983 and has held several operational and staff positions. He is now responsible for all personnel matters at Hecla, and will on occasion assist subsidiary companies with their personnel needs. He received a master’s degree in business administration from Gonzaga University.

Larry A. Drew, who joined Hecla in 1989, was named director of environmental affairs. His duties include permitting and regulatory compliance; reviewing and commenting on proposed legislation and regulations; and supervising air, water, soil and other environmental studies. He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in forest management from the University of Idaho and a PhD in forest ecology from the University of Minnesota.

Vicki J. Veltkamp was promoted to director of investor and public relations. Veltkamp was public relations specialist for Hecla from 1988 to 1993, then left to work for Santa Fe Pacific Gold in Albuquerque, N.M. She returned to Hecla in 1995 as manager of corporate communications. Her responsibilities include interacting with investors and financial analysts, as well as handling media and community relations and corporate contributions. She received a bachelor’s degree in broadcast communications from Western Washington University.

Lewis E. Walde was named assistant controller. He has worked for Hecla since 1992 and is responsible for establishing and monitoring the company’s financial accounting systems and controls, including overall responsibility for financial reporting. Walde received a B.B.A. degree in accounting from Gonzaga University.

Kudos:

The following people have received the Professional Finance Officer Award for 1999 from the Washington Finance Officer’s Association. The award is given annually to members who have met requirements in community and professional service for ongoing education: Linda Bruce, deputy city treasurer, city of Spokane; Sheila Creekmore, finance director, city of Deer Park; Christine McCoy, clerk/treasurer, City of Deer Park; James L. Plaster, director of finance/administration, Spokane Transit Authority; and Dale Sciuchette, treasurer, city of Spokane.

Jessie Quincy has been named Volunteer of the Year by Friends of Seven, a nonprofit organization that raises funds for public television station KSPS. Quincy has been a volunteer for Friends of Seven since 1995. She earlier helped the organization as a telephone volunteer from the Southside Senior Activity Center during membership campaigns.
