Church Programs Back On Schedule
Valley churches are shifting into high gear this week as fall programs get under way. Sunday school programs are beginning and several churches are also switching back to their normal worship service schedules.
Children are invited to register for Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. Sunday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 810 S. Sullivan Road. Parents may meet the teachers and check out the curriculum while children play games and dine on ice cream sundaes.
The worship schedule also changes on Sunday. Services will now begin at 8:30 and 11 a.m. each week.
Millwood Community Presbyterian Church, 3223 N. Marguerite Road, will switch back to its normal worship schedule on Sunday. Services now begin at 9 and 11:15 a.m., with the education hour beginning at 10 a.m. This week there will be a free breakfast served during the education hour.
Sunday worship services now begin at 8:30 and 11 a.m. at Opportunity Presbyterian Church, 202 N. Pines. Sunday school classes start at 10 a.m.
The fall worship schedule starts Sunday at Zion Lutheran Church, 8304 E. Buckeye. Services start at 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. with Sunday school beginning at 9:40. This Sunday there will a reception during the education hour to give parents a chance to meet the teachers. Refreshments will be served.
A Sunday school carnival starts at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Christ Lutheran Church, 13009 E. Broadway. There will be carnival booths, art projects, balloon art, food and clowns. Students may also register for Sunday school classes.
Sunday also marks the first day of the fall worship schedule. Services begin at 8:15 and 10:30 a.m.
The church is also planning to host a bake sale during poll hours during Tuesday’s election. The sale begins at 7 a.m.
The fall worship schedule begins Sunday at the Spokane Valley United Methodist Church, 10422 E. Main. Sunday school begins at 9 a.m. and worship starts at 10:15. A mini carnival will be held during the Sunday school time. There will be games for the children as well as a chance to meet the teachers.
Sunday school resumes this weekend at the Veradale United Church of Christ, 611 N. Progress Road. Classes will be held during the 10:30 a.m. worship service. The service will be followed by a potluck lunch. The church will provide beverages and table service. Those planning to attend are asked to bring a hot dish, salad, dessert or bread.
Women’s Bible study begins
A new women’s Bible study begins Friday at Foothills Community Church, 11102 N. Forker Road. The 10-week class is a Navigator’s Course in Personal Discipleship and will be offered each Friday at 12:45 p.m. Child care will be available.

Holy Trinity celebrates 40 years
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church is preparing to host a 40th anniversary dinner at 6 p.m. on Oct. 9. The evening will include entertainment and a special program. Several former pastors are expected to attend.
The cost is $5 per person or $15 per family and reservations must be made before next Sunday.
Guest speaker at Greenacres Baptist
Greenacres Baptist Church, 18620 E. Sprague, will host guest speaker John Phillips during the 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. worship services on Sunday and on Sept. 19. He will also speak at 9 a.m. Monday and Tuesday and at 7 p.m. daily Monday through Friday.
Phillips is a well-known Bible teacher was was the assistant director of the Moody Correspondence School and director of the Emmaus Correspondence School. He was also an instructor at the Moody Evening School and holds a Doctor of Ministry from Luther Rice Seminary.

Christian concert at Valley Fourth
Valley Fourth Memorial, 2303 S. Bowdish, will host the Christian band River in concert Friday at 7 p.m. The contemporary trio has had three songs from their latest release, “Faithful,” reach the top 10 on the national inspirational radio charts.
Admission is free, but a freewill offering will be collected.
