Authorities Name Plane Crash Victims

Authorities have released the names of two men who were killed when their plane crashed Saturday afternoon near Bonners Ferry.

The men are brothers, Daniel and Jonathan Byler of Naples, the Boundary County Sheriff’s Department reported.

Their two-seat Series 5 Vixen Ultralight took off around 4 p.m. on Saturday from a private field when it began to show signs of mechanical problems, a witness said. The plane turned as if to land but crashed to the ground and burst into flames, the witness said.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash. Both men are pilots; it is unknown which was flying the plane when it crashed.

Both men have small children.
