Procter & Gamble Co. is spending $35 million to launch a new Internet site that will sell beauty products, the first major foray by the consumer products giant to sell goods directly to customers online. The site will offer everything from shampoo to eye shadow, and the products will be sold exclusively on reflect.com.

Vencor Inc., struggling under a mountain of debt and bad publicity, filed for bankruptcy Monday, the latest in a string of bad news for one of the nation’s largest nursing chains.

Sony Corp. heated up the video-game wars with rivals Sega and Nintendo on Monday when it announced that the new version of its PlayStation gaming system will hit store shelves in Japan in March. PlayStation2, which will sell for about $360, will be able to link to the Internet and play music and videos.
