Utah Gov. Michael Leavitt stood among 1,700 pairs of shoes Monday in front of the Capitol in Salt Lake City, calling for an increased awareness of drunken driving. Each pair of shoes was meant to represent one of the more than 1,700 people who die or are injured in the state of Utah each year in drunken driving-related accidents.
