Fire Chars Forest Near Chattaroy

A fire burned about five acres of timberland north of Chattaroy on Tuesday. No one was injured and no structures were burned, according to Jeff Ruddell, incident commander for the Department of Natural Resources.

The cause is under investigation.

Spokane Fire District 4 and DNR responded to the blaze near Deer Creek Road at 5:07 p.m. Winds picked up and quickly moved the fire through the forested area. An air tanker was used to help combat the fire, Ruddell said.

The fire was contained about 8 p.m.
