Lumberjacks Alone Atop Iml

Year in and year out, St. Maries is strong in volleyball.

Now Yearout is strong for St. Maries volleyball.

Jessica Yearout had nine kills Thursday in helping St. Maries jump to the top of the Intermountain League.

The Lumberjacks (16-1 overall, 4-0 IML) defeated visiting Lakeland 15-5, 15-7 to drop the Hawks to 4-1 in league. St. Maries, IML champion for 19 consecutive years, trailed in the second game 5-1.

Lindsey Harpole added 26 assists for the Lumberjacks. Lakeland’s Megan Egbert had eight kills.

Also in the IML, Heather Kreider had nine digs in Timberlake’s 2-0 win over visiting Bonners Ferry. Kerinsa Jennings and Stephanie Sherman added five kills apiece for the Tigers (2-3)… . Kellogg (1-4) recorded a 2-0 win at Priest River. Mary Lemm had 10 digs and seven kills for PR.

Jessica Vasquez totaled 21 digs and 30 assists in Moscow’s 15-12, 11-15, 15-11, 15-12 Border League win over West Valley. Moscow (3-0) tied idle Coeur d’Alene and Sandpoint for first place.

Ashley Ruen and Shana Worcester combined for 13 kills in Clark Fork’s 2-0 win at Mullan in the North Star League. Michelle Stevens added 11 digs for the Wampus Cats (3-0). Second-place Mullan is 1-1.

Kootenai was good on 62 of 64 serves in defeating Logos 2-1 in a non-leaguer at Moscow. Darcy Passow had 13 kills and Janelle Scheffelmaier six blocks for Kootenai.

Boys soccer

Jeff Terracciano and George Cary scored twice apiece in Lake City’s 8-0 home win over Post Falls in the North Idaho League. Mark Landers assisted on two first-half goals for the Timberwolves (5-2, 5-0)… . Despite missing three suspended starters, who violated the school’s conduct code, Coeur d’Alene (6-1-1, 4-0-1) defeated visiting Moscow 2-0. Kip Sharbono’s goal on a penalty kick capped the scoring.
