Heidi Hunt, the county election official, recently visited the entire Ritzville sixth grade with her “Voting is Cool” program. Voting procedures and different types of elections were discussed.

Ferry County

Republic

Dog owners have been put on notice that enforcement of dog violations is being stepped up. Citations can be issued to pet owners for dogs running loose, excessive barking, lack of license and potentially dangerous/dangerous dogs.

Grant County

Moses Lake

The city struck an agreement with the county over the Wheeler Corridor. The corridor, filling quickly with industrial businesses, has been a point of contention between the two governments. Moses Lake will share tax revenues with Grant County so the county can finish its comprehensive plan, and the city can continue its annexation plans.

Lincoln County

Almira

Lions Club Park is in need of new playground equipment. A little more than $10,000 will be needed for a new dome climber, more swings, a toddler slide, teeter totter and two large barbecues. The community has already raised $5,300. Donations are accepted and local residents are encouraged to support upcoming fund-raisers.

Pend Oreille County

Bridge replacement work on LeClerc Road North will begin Monday. The work was to be done Sept. 13, but was pushed back this week. The project includes removal of a fish passage barrier at Cee Cee Ah Creek. The road will be closed for at least four days.

Spokane County

Tower Perennial Gardens at the Palouse Highway and Jamieson Road is hosting live jazz and classical music this weekend during its “Fall Fling” event. Autumn flowers and foliage will be on display and refreshments will be provided from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Sunday.

Stevens County

Colville

School staff and administration are dealing with programming and employee cuts after the recent levy failure. At Hofstetter Middle School, the positive reinforcement discipline program has been cut.

Whitman County

Pullman

Neill Public Library and Whitman County Library District will host a series of four “Inquiring Mind” programs in cooperation with the Washington Commission for the Humanities, Whitman County Library Friends and Friends of Neill Public Library.

“May’s Vote,” the first program in the series, presents two Washington historical figures and their fight for women’s right to vote in the state. The story of Western Washington suffrage organizer Emma Smith Devoc and Spokane millionaire May Arkwright Hutton is appropriate for middle school through adult ages. The presentation will be held at 1 p.m., Sept. 28 in Colfax’s Whitman County Library, and at 6:30 p.m. in the Gladish Community Center, music seminar room B20. Plummer

The Plummer/Worley School District Board of Trustees certified an emergency levy for $81,605, Sept. 9. The levy is available every September to school districts with an increase in attendance over the previous September. The cost to a homeowner with $50,000 of taxable value on their home for the levy will be $14 for the year. For information, call the district office at (208) 686-1621.

Dates for the repair on two bridges on the East Shore Road at Priest Lake have changed. The Caribou Creek bridge is now closed through Oct. 3 and the Lion Creek bridge will be closed Oct. 4 through 10. Bridge repairs are necessary to fix cracking in the running surfaces.

Boundary County

Bonners Ferry

The Bonners Ferry Seniors Hospitality Center operates 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. The center serves meals Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at noon. Home delivered meals are available. The center also provides transportation to recreational activities and operates subsidized housing. For information, contact the center at (208) 267-5553.

The Idaho Fish and Game Department has scheduled public meetings to discuss 1999 fall hunting and fishing prospects and 200 license fee proposals. The first meeting will be 7 p.m., Sept. 27 at the IDFG office in Coeur d’Alene. The second meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m., Sept. 28 at the Leo Hadley Range Sandpoint. Written comments may be submitted by 5 p.m., Sept. 28 to IDFG, 2750 Kathleen Ave., Coeur d’Alene.

Shoshone County Deputy Assessor Mike Dancer has replaced Linda Brunette on the East Shoshone Hospital District. Brunette and former board chairman Robin Stanley both resigned from the board. No replacement has been named for Stanley.

Libby

Two teenagers are facing adult felony charges after they were charged with attacking an officer at the county juvenile detention center in Troy. Karina Orsborn, 17, of Libby, and Tasha Taylor, 16, of Kalispell, are each charged with two counts of felony assault and one count each of assault on a peace officer and attempted escape. If convicted on all charges, the girls could face up to 50 years in prison. Osborn and Taylor allegedly attacked a female detention officer Sept. 16 when she opened their cell to let Orsborn out to go to the recreation room.
