Local Bands Are Preparing For Battle
Tune those guitars. It’s time to audition for BOBfest 2000, the annual battle of the bands competition sponsored by the Chase Youth Commission.
The commission is accepting audition tapes, CDs or videos through April 14 from area teen bands.
Don’t have a tape or CD? Then sign up now for a live audition spot at the downtown YMCA on April 15 between noon and 7 p.m. There are only 20 spots available for live auditions, so register now.
Here are the rules:
Applications must include three songs, including two original. Entries will be judged on audio elements only. Lyrics, props and performance must be non-violent, free of ethnic, racial or disability slurs, and respect sexuality and contain no derogatory language. Applications must include the name, address, phone number, age and school for each band members. All members must be in junior or senior high school as of June.

And if guitar pickin’ isn’t your forte, the Chase Youth Commission is also accepting through April 14 artwork from junior and senior high school students for the Images art show, which coincides with BOBfest.
This year’s theme is “Expressions of Spokane” and entries may be drawings, paintings, sculptures, ceramics, jewelry, photography, poetry and miscellaneous. Entries must be original work by the entrant only, and it must include a written statement describing the connection to the theme, as well as the artist’s name, address, phone number, age and school. All entries will be displayed in Riverfront Park during BOBfest. For more information, call 625-6440.
