Mormons To Build Temple In Tri-Cities

From Staff

The Mormon Church plans to build six temples - three in the United States and three abroad - President Gordon B. Hinckley announced Sunday at the close of the 170th-semiannual General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The new U.S. temples will be built in the Tri-Cities; Lubbock, Texas; and Snowflake, Ariz.

Overseas, temples were announced for Aba, Nigeria; Asuncion, Paraguay; and Helsinki, Finland.

Schedules have not been set for ground breaking and construction.

Temples, where Mormons perform sacred ordinances such as eternal marriage and baptism of the dead, are open to church members only and differ from the meeting halls where regular services are held.
