Adams County Ritzville
Budding artists are invited to create a logo for this year’s Wheatlands Communities’ Fair. The theme is “Heard Any Good Moos?” Applications are available at all Wheatlands community schools. Students in Ritzville, Lind, Washtucna and Benge are invited to enter. Only hand-drawn submissions will be judged; the winner will get a family pass to the fair.
Ferry County Republic
Stott’s Construction, which often does community service work, recently hauled water for free in the Keller area because of a broken pipe. The company hoped to prequalify for Department of Transportation contracting, but the agency says it cannot because Stott’s didn’t make a profit last year. Locals say if Stott’s got paid for all the help it provided, it would have easily been in the black.
Grant County Moses Lake
Jerry Hamley of the North Central Washington Fatherhood Initiative Group will discuss the need for active fathers at a symposium today at 1:30 p.m. at the Grant County Courthouse. NCWFI strives to keep families intact by supporting couples about to marry, and those considering divorce.
Lincoln County Almira
Margorie Evans retired as local postmaster March 31 after 24 years. Evans got started in the mail business when she drove the rural route back in the mid-1970s. More than 120 people attended her farewell tea.
Pend Oreille County Cusick
After a year of waiting and wondering, the school board has received the bill for former Superintendent Charles Crickman’s retirement. The district had to ante up $38,716 in March, in addition to Crickman’s pension. The school feared it would owe $65,000, which it could not pay. The money was owed because of a number of vacation days unused by Crickman.
Spokane County Spokane
The Arc of Spokane, 116 W. Indiana, will open its doors May 6 for a community awareness event and fund-raising spaghetti feed. Arc staff people will dress as Albert Einstein, Betty Boop, Cinderella, Popeye and other characters to serve dinner. Seating times are 5, 6 and 7 p.m. and admission is two grocery bags of clothing or household items. Call (509) 789-2247 for a seating time.
Stevens County Colville
Residents are warned to draw enough drinking water for the day before 8 a.m. The city is flushing water mains today through Friday. Work will be done between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. City officials say the water during flushing is generally cloudy. Those with kidney dialysis machines or similar medical equipment are asked to contact the city to schedule a good flushing time in their area.
Whitman County Pullman
Wood materials scientists and engineers from throughout the United States and overseas will attend the 34th International Particleboard/Composite Materials Symposium at WSU starting Monday. Presentations will focus on the latest science and theory behind nondestructive testing of products and materials. Sessions will be in the CUB and end at noon Thursday.

Benewah County St. Maries
The annual Spring O-Mok-See three-event series will begin April 16 at the Benewah county Fairgrounds. The series is sponsored by and will benefit the local 4-H horse club. The second competition will be May 7 and the third May 21. Registration per event is $1.50; call (208) 245-3258.
Bonner County Sandpoint
The Pend Oreille Arts Council application deadline is April 14 for the annual Artwalk set for June 14 through Sept. 7. Boundary County Bonners Ferry
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced high school student Danial Bleile as this year’s winner of the Idaho 2000 Federal Junior Duck Stamp Program and Scholarship Competition. Bleile won a blue ribbon for Best of Show for his art “On the Wing.” This is the second consecutive year Bleile won.
Kootenai County Rathdrum
William Boekel has retired after 27 years on the Kootenai Electric Cooperative board. When Boekel, a farmer/rancher, started on the board, the co-op had about 4,000 accounts. It now serves more than 16,000 customers in North Idaho and Eastern Washington.
Latah County Moscow
The Latah Economic Development Council will present a business forum on “Alturas and the Future of Urban Renewal,” at noon Wednesday at the old Sears building in Eastside Marketplace. The forum will give background on the Alturas Technology Park and answer questions about zoning, development, taxation and the park’s potential economic impact.
Shoshone County Wallace
Kellogg High School graduate Alexander Flores was chosen recently as principal at Wallace High, according to interim District Superintendent Larry Curry. Flores, an assistant administrator at Eastmont High School in Wenatchee, will replace Ron McCracken, who will retire at the end of the school year.

Lincoln County Libby
Republican Rick Maedje will run for Lincoln County commissioner in a three-way race against Democratic incumbent Marianne Roose and Reform Party challenger Cajun James. Maedje runs a small logging operation and has lived in Fortine for three years.
