A Royal Bundle
Queen Elizabeth II has become Britain’s newest dot-com millionaire. She made nearly $1.5 million with Friday’s public offering of Getmapping.com PLC. The queen had invested $160,000 last year for a 1.5 percent stake in the company, which is taking aerial photographs of the whole of Britain. The stock closed at $3.58 a share Friday, up 38 cents, making the queen’s stake worth $1.6 million. That won’t move her up on the list of Britain’s richest women. With some $440 million, she was ranked No. 8 this year by The Sunday Times. In 1995, Business Age magazine estimated her wealth at $3.4 billion, but that included the royal art collection and two palaces. “Legally, she might have problems actually selling Buckingham Palace,” the magazine conceded.
