N-Shira-Pa Back At Mall

Last year, the N-Shira-Pa made for a festive day of musicians, dancers, African folk tales and a fashion show at the Spokane Valley Mall.

This year’s event planned for today has grown and added a food drive for the Calvary Baptist Church food ministry.

Entertainment will run from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Spokane Valley Mall.

N-Shira-Pa is a word created from the Ashanti language of Ghana in West Africa that means “good blessings on you.”

Here is the tentative schedule:

10 a.m. - Opening ceremony

10:30 a.m. - Am Y’Dig, a youth dance and drama group

10:45 a.m. - Magic show with Anthony Gilmore

11 a.m. - Dance by 1st Lt. Tangi Johnson

11:10 a.m. - Dance by Chris Anderson, dance instructor

11:15 a.m. - Eastern Washington Precessions

11:40 a.m. - Chad and Todd Austin, brothers in the junior symphony.

11:50 a.m. - Tribute to former Spokane Mayor James Chase, presented by V. Anne Smith

12:15 p.m. - Magic act

1 p.m. - Zeta Beta Phi step show for EWU

1:05 p.m. - Nancy Nelson, director of EWU’s African American program, presents “History of Dolls in a Woman’s Life.”

1:40 p.m. - Short play performed by Regina and Jimmy Senteza

1:45 p.m. - Music group Deep Pockets

2:30 p.m. - Fashion show

3:30 p.m. - Gospel hour (various groups)

5 p.m. - Brandon O’Neil and the Lay Down Loud Band

5:30 p.m. - Nada Middle Eastern Dancers

6:30 p.m. - Coeurembia band

7 p.m. - Onyx Theatre performs a play excerpt

7:40 p.m. - Burt Bell Jazz Trio
