A Far Cry From ‘The Lion King’

Kaylin Greene East Valley

“The Road to El Dorado” (Rated PG)

I love animation, so I had high hopes when I went to see “The Road to El Dorado.” Unfortunately, it was obvious from the beginning that the movie wasn’t going to be the next “Lion King.”

The movie tells the story of two men, Tulio and Miguel (Kevin Kline and Kenneth Branagh), who come upon a map of a place called El Dorado, or The City of Gold.

After they are taken as prisoners on a ship, they escape and finally reach land.

There they are met with open arms as they find that El Dorado truly does exist. Tulio falls in love with a woman (Rosie Perez), and things work out way too well for these two.

Even pushing the unrealistic dialogue and plot to the back of my mind, the movie isn’t anything exceptional.

The jokes aren’t new, and the songs by Elton John and Tim Rice are lacking.

Overall, the film is a letdown. Of course, all of the children in the theater thought the movie was funny.

Grade: C+
