Marvin Burgess Summit Valley, Wash.
Graveside service for Marvin Loy Burgess, 69, will be at 11 a.m. today at Summit Valley Cemetery. Memorial service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Summit Valley Community Church. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Burgess, who was born in Spokane, died Thursday.
He started a dairy farm in the Summit Valley area in 1951 and retired six years ago.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Hazel; three sons, Marvin Burgess Jr. of Colville, Wash., and Ben and Vince Burgess, of Summit Valley; a daughter, Nancy Holtzclaw of Summit Valley; two stepsons, Raymond Groeper of Spokane and Earl Groeper of Roberta, Ga.; two stepdaughters, Janyce Jermane of Spokane and Mary Burgess of Moses Lake; three brothers, Alvin Burgess of Moses Lake, Norman Burgess of Seattle and Ron Burgess of Everett; two sisters, Theda Hart of Moses Lake and Lois Wiltse of Wenatchee; 27 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Barbara Murphy Spokane
Funeral Mass for Barbara Jane Murphy, 60, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church. Vault burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Mountain View Cemetery in Davenport, Wash. Strate Funeral Home in Davenport is in charge of arrangements.
A 30-year Spokane resident, Miss Murphy died Wednesday.
She was born in Davenport and graduated in 1957 from Davenport High School.
Miss Murphy worked for The Crescent Department Store for 10 years, and also worked as the director of policy holder services at North Coast Life Insurance Company for more than 25 years.
She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and the Catholic Business Women.
Survivors include her mother, Blanche Murphy of Davenport; and three sisters, Beverly Murphy of Spokane, Irene Ehler of Grand Coulee and Mary Stackpole of Monroe, Wash.

Joseph Dikes Spokane
Memorial service for Joseph N. Dikes, 67, will be at 3 p.m. today at Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Dikes, who died Wednesday, was born in Oklahoma City.
His family moved to Spokane when he was a child and he graduated from Rogers High school.
He served in the Navy as a hospital corpsman from 1955 to 1956.
Mr. Dikes graduated from Whitworth College in 1958 with a bachelor’s degree in biology. During college he worked as a journeyman carpenter.
He married Margaret Craig in 1959 and moved to the Spokane Valley in 1965. He Took over the Community Nursing Home and they later established Sunshine Health Facility Inc. and operated Sunshine Gardens. Mr. Dikes completed a nursing home administrators course and became a licensed administrator in 1970.
He was a member of the Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene, the Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Spokane County Underwater Rescue Team.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, David and Nathan Dikes, and a daughter, Carol Dikes, all of Spokane; a brother, William Dikes of Phoenix; and a grandson.

Milton Hanley Newport, Wash.
Gravside service for Milton Jay Hanley, 94, will be at 2 p.m. today at the Newport Cemetery. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hanley, who was born in Medical Lake, died Thursday.
He graduated from Hunters (Wash.) High School in 1924 and had lived in the Newport area for more than 50 years.
In 1932 he married Evelyn Richman. He served in the National Guard, and also worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Washington State Highway Department for more than 20 years. He retired in the 1970s.
Mr. Hanley was a charter member of the Pend Oreille Sheriffs Posse.
His wife died in 1986.
He is survived by a brother, Jim Hanley of Chewelah, Wash.

Mary Murphy Spokane
Memorial service for Mary L. Murphy, 72, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Central Seventh-day Adventist Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Canton, Ill., Mrs. Murphy died March 28.
She was a 31-year Spokane resident and worked as a dental assistant. She was a member of the Central Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Glenn; two sons, Montie Murphy of Spokane and Pat Murphy of Marysville, Wash.; a brother, Standley Ausmus of Salem, Ore.; and five grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Malawia Mission Project in care of Central Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Dorothy Smith Spokane
Memorial service for Dorothy Kathryn Smith, 81, was Saturday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South.
A 28-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Smith died April 2. She was born in Butte, Mont., and graduated from Montana State University.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, the Women of Rotary and the Southside Newcomers Bridge Club.
Her husband, Bill, died in 1987.
She is survived by three daughters, Liane Ingalls of Corvallis, Ore., Deborah Bronson of Pflugerville, Texas, and Karin Smithson of St. Simons Island, Ga.; and five grandchildren.

Helen Walker Spokane
Service for Helen Elaine Walker, 66, will be at 11 a.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Mrs. Walker, who was born in Harvel, Ill., died Tuesday.
She was a 20-year Spokane resident, and worked as a bookkeeper.
