Panel To Discuss Clinton Roadless Plan
Organizers are hoping for some lively debate during a panel discussion on the U.S. Forest Service roadless initiative in Moscow on Thursday night.
They shouldn’t be disappointed. Controversy surrounds the Clinton administration’s proposal to protect remaining roadless areas in national forests. The initiative takes in close to 40 million acres of roadless National Forest, including roughly 8 million in Idaho.
The discussion starts at 7:30 p.m. in Room 104 at the University of Idaho Law School. Panelists include Howie Wolke, an outfitter in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness and outspoken wilderness defender; Bill Mulligan, owner of Three Rivers Timber Inc. and a forest products industry supporter; Tom Rhode, Forest Service regional planner in Missoula; and Gary Macfarlane, a local conservationist. Paul Hirt, author and Washington State University professor, will serve as moderator. For more information, call (208) 882-9755.
