Churches Planning Palm Sunday Events
Churches all over the South Side are making final preparations for Holy Week and Easter. This Sunday is Palm Sunday, and some churches also are planning special events to mark that day.
First Presbyterian Church will present a dramatic performance of “The Weaver” Sunday at 7 p.m. The story follows the creator of a tapestry who watches his work unravel and must decide what to do about it.
The presentation includes modern dance and music by the church’s choir and orchestra.
The church also will host an art show connected with the event. The show, at 6 p.m., will precede the performance.
A light dessert will be served after the performance.
Admission for the event is $5 per person or $10 per family. For more information, call the church office at 747-1058.

There are several worship services scheduled during Holy Week at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th. There will be a 7 a.m. service daily from Monday through Friday in the cathedral’s All Saints Chapel. Morning prayer begins at 8:45 a.m. Monday through Friday in the church’s St. Peter’s Chapel.
Another service will be offered at 12:15 p.m. Monday through next Thursday in All Saints Chapel. For more information call the cathedral at 838-4277.
Cheney United Methodist Church will host a Passover worship service and meal at 5 p.m. Sunday. The meal is potluck, and all are welcome to attend.

Occasional Consort in concert
The a capella singing group Occasional Consort will perform in concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes, 1115 W. Riverside. The new group is composed of singers drawn from the Northwest Bach Choir and the Spokane Symphony Chorale.
The concert is free, and the public is welcome.
Meal, car wash to aid mission trip
The youth at South Hill Bible Church will put on a pancake breakfast and car wash Saturday to raise money for a summer mission trip to Ecuador. Breakfast will be served from 8 to 10:30 a.m., and cars will be scrubbed down in the parking lot from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The meal is $5 per person, and the car wash is $5 per car. The church is located at 958 E. 29th.
Food, crafts on sale at Bethlehem
The Sunday school classes at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2715 S. Ray, will hold their annual bake and craft sale Sunday following the 10:30 a.m. worship service. Proceeds from the sale will be used to purchase equipment and supplies for the classes.
Central Methodist plans bake sale
A bake sale will be held following the 10:30 a.m. worship service Sunday at Central United Methodist Church, 518 W. Third.
