Bender To Get Extension

University of Washington men’s basketball coach Bob Bender will have his contract extended by one year later this month, athletic director Barbara Hedges said.

Bender has four years remaining on a contract that comes up for extension each April. It pays him an annual base salary of about $375,000.

Washington State assistant coach Gary Stewart is one of four candidates who will interview for the Cal State Fullerton men’s basketball job, according to the Salt Lake Tribune. The others are New Mexico State assistant coach Thomas Trotter, Cal State San Bernardino coach Larry Reynolds and University of Utah assistant Donny Daniels.

The Washington State women’s rowing team has dropped one place to No. 14 in the latest national poll.

Four other Pac-10 schools remain among the rankings. With a sweep of the Cougars last weekend, the Washington Huskies retain the top spot with No. 3 California and No. 5 USC also holding onto last week’s rankings. Oregon State jumped one spot in the poll to No. 12.

Volleyball

Washington State will host a spring practice tournament on April 22.

Teams from the University of Idaho, University of Washington, University of Montana, and Lewis-Clark State College will play in a round-robin tournament format in the Physical Education Building gyms 144 and 146, beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing until around 5 p.m.
