Carpenter Constructs A Lake City Win
Catcher Megan Carpenter used a hammer and a nail Thursday to help Lake City to a 5-4 win at Colville in Border League softball.
Carpenter hammered a two-run homer in the third inning to lead the Timberwolves (9-0, 5-0) to a 4-0 lead. In the seventh, with Lake City protecting its 5-4 lead, Carpenter nailed a baserunner at first base for the second out.
Winning pitcher Bobbi Darretta struck out five, doubled and tripled.
Lindsey Terry’s two-run triple in the fourth gave Colville (5-3, 3-3) a 4-all tie. The Indians allowed the winning run on an error in the sixth.
The other Border League games, Coeur d’Alene at West Valley and Lewiston at Cheney, were rained out. No makeup dates were announced.
All five scheduled Greater Spokane League games were rained out. East Valley at University was rescheduled for Monday. Mead at Shadle Park was moved to Wednesday. No makeup dates were announced for Ferris at Gonzaga Prep, Rogers at Mt. Spokane, and Lewis and Clark at Central Valley.
Baseball
Joe Spears and Tyler Albertson had two RBIs apiece to help Colville (7-3, 4-2) to a 10-8 win over visiting Lake City in the Border League. Colville’s Ross Challinor doubled in a run and later scored in the fourth for a 9-5 lead. Kevin Bauerle had two hits for the T-Wolves (3-8, 2-5)… . The day’s other league games, Coeur d’Alene at West Valley, Post Falls at Moscow, and Lewiston at Cheney, were postponed by rain. No makeup dates were announced.
All five scheduled GSL games were rained out. Mead at Shadle Park was rescheduled for Saturday. No makeup dates were announced for Rogers at Mt. Spokane, East Valley at University, Lewis and Clark at Central Valley, and Gonzaga Prep vs. Ferris at Avista Stadium.
Boys soccer
West Valley recorded a 5-1 Frontier League win at Clarkston, which dropped to 0-3 in league. The Eagles are 5-3-2 overall, 2-1-1 in league. No details were reported.
