Benewah County St. Maries

Michael G. Lininger, a recent graduate of the Idaho State Police academy, has been assigned to Benewah County. Lininger will replace trooper Ron Sutton, who is transferring to Coeur d’Alene. Lininger was raised in Kellogg, graduated from North Idaho College and received two bachelor of science degrees from the University of Idaho.

Boundary County Bonners Ferry

Carol Belden, of Bonners Ferry, recently won $20,000 in a casino’s drawing in Jackpot, Nev. Belden’s name was selected out of 9,921 entries.

Kootenai County Post Falls

Post Falls Chamber Ambassadors is considering changing its name to better associate its program with the town’s culture. The group is asking residents to send their suggestions and will award a prize for the winning name. For details, call (208) 773-3843 or send e-mail to pfchamber@nidlink.com.

Latah County Moscow

Good Samaritan Village’s Great Escape program provides elderly residents an opportunity to walk escorted with volunteers or family members up to half a mile on paths surrounding the facility. Volunteers are needed. For more information, call (208) 882-6560.

Shoshone County Pinehurst

The Pinehurst City Council will delay action for 30 days on a proposed mandatory helmet ordinance for skaters, bicyclists and skateboarders using the city park. The delay will give the city a chance to gather public comment on the proposal. A draft copy of the ordinance is available for review at City Hall.

MONTANA

Lincoln County Libby

Amnesty is being granted to Lincoln County Library patrons with overdue books, but if items have been damaged, a fine will be assessed. Libraries in Libby, Troy and Eureka are participating as part of National Library Week.

WASHINGTON

Pend Oreille County Newport

The city of Newport is beginning parking enforcement this week. The two-hour limit for downtown parking is designed to keep people who work in the city center from taking shoppers’ parking spots all day. All fines also have been increased. Anyone parking over the limit in two-hour, 15-minute and 10-minute zones will pay a $10 fine. The fine is $20 for anyone violating the 48-hour citywide parking limit.

Spokane County Cheney

The city of Cheney is holding its annual spring cleanup Wednesday through Friday. For $20, homeowners can have old furniture and appliances picked up by the city, limited to what will fit in a pickup truck. To make arrangements, call (509) 235-7293.

Whitman County Pullman

Pullman Memorial Hospital will hold a special board meeting Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. to discuss its recently announced five-point plan. The plan includes a variety of options for hospital operations but suggests a mix of budget cuts and expanded service in an effort to operate more efficiently. A special public forum on the plan is slated for next Monday evening.
