Adams County Othello
Local pianist Stephen Beus, 18, has been chosen as the guest soloist for the Alliance for a benefit concert to help the Seattle School District. Beus will play Seattle’s Benaroya Recital Hall, home of the Seattle Symphony, on May 26, with all proceeds going to help Seattle public schools’ music programs. Beus recently placed first at a national piano competition in Minneapolis, and second in New York.
Ferry County Republic
Sheriff Pete Warner recently received approval from county commissioners to apply for a community-oriented policing grant to hire three deputies. The federal grant, if received, would help fund the officers for up to three years.
Grant County Moses Lake
Two boys, 9 and 11, brought their squirt guns to the grounds of North Elementary School and flashed them at three other kids. The kids knew one of the guns was a pink water pistol, but feared the other was a real gun. The witnesses ran into an open classroom, where a teacher working during spring break took control of the situation. Sheriff’s deputies were called. The boys were disciplined by both the deputies and the school district.
Lincoln County Davenport
Davenport home-school kids, and Junior Girl Scout Troop No. 376 will participate in Jump Roping for the Heart on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the west parking lot of the Lincoln County Courthouse. Pend Oreille County Metaline Falls
Teacher and composer Donivan Johnson is putting together a musical celebration of the Easter season titled “Worldes Blis.” The concert, set for tonight and Friday evening at 7:30 in the Cutter Theatre, will feature an adaptation of a Medieval mystery featuring ancient musical carols Johnson has updated.
Spokane County Spokane
Moran Prairie neighbors are holding a tree planting event Saturday at 11 a.m. to kick off a campaign to reforest the land along nearby arterial streets. The Arbor Day event will be at 57th and Regal in front of Gold’s Gym.
Stevens County Colville
A local women’s group, “Positive Pens,” is working on writing and personal expression skills through a rural resources adult literacy program. The women meet weekly to share and jot down their encouraging and positive thoughts. For more information call (509) 684-8421.

Bonner County Clark Fork
A two-mile stretch of the Johnson Creek Road bypass west of Clark Fork - between mile marker five and the Johnson Saddle - will be closed until further notice because of spring breakup, according to Sandpoint Ranger District. For more information, call (208) 263-5111.

The popular Micro-Soccer spring program registered about 300 children, 4-11 years old from Moscow, Pullman, Troy and Genesee. The size of the child determines the size of field they play on. Shoshone County Pinehurst
Carri Dickinson, the Pinehurst Parent Teacher Association vice president and Kellogg Middle School Parent Teacher Student Association president brought home awards recently for both organizations from the 94th Annual Idaho PTA convention. The Pinehurst PTA received the Excellence Award, Membership Award and the National PTA Outstanding Membership Award. The Kellogg Middle School PTSA received the Excellence Award, the National PTA Outstanding Membership Award and the State PTSA membership plaque.

Lincoln County Libby
A newly formed gun-lock safety program was started by Libby Middle School teacher Kim Peck and school resource officer Scott Hutchings of the Libby Police Department. Sixth-grade students who pass a hunter safety course next fall will receive a certificate for a free trigger lock as will second-graders who take the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety program.
