Sandpoint Star Wins Top Honor At Eason Invitational Track Meet

Stacy Bolstad didn’t go a long way for nothing.

The Sandpoint standout turned in an amazing performance in the Eason Invitational track meet in Snohomish, Wash., on Saturday.

She won the 100, 200 and 100 hurdles and was fourth in the 400 to be named Outstanding Female Athlete for the meet that drew approximately 100 teams.

Also, the Bulldogs scored 36 points to finish sixth. Burnaby, British Columbia won with 55 points.

Bolstad won the 100 (12.87), 200 (25.60) and 100 hurdles (15.24) and was third in the 400 (59.94). The races were all fully automatic timed.

Steve Ward and Kyle Hutchison combined to win the triple jump to give Post Falls its only victory in the Mooberrry Relays at Rogers High. Ward had the best triple at 41 feet, 1/4 inch. Combined with Huchison’s 38-7-3/4, the Trojans won the “relay” event at 79-8. That beat a Central Valley pair by 7 inches. The Trojans scored 23 points. Mt. Spokane won the 16-team meet with 94 points. The Post Falls girls scored 17-1/2 points. Shadle Park won with 81.

Border League baseball

Tyler Smith pitched a four-hitter and Neil Bangs and Matt Palmer had back-to-back doubles in the seventh, leading Post Falls (3-7) to a 4-3 upset at Lewiston (12-1) in the first game of a doubleheader. Julius Smith improved to 5-0 as the Bengals took the second game 11-6. Lewiston senior Colin Moss (4-1) struck out nine in the first game, but was tagged with his first loss in high school… . Joe Parce scored on a bases-loaded walk with two out in the seventh, lifting Moscow (6-9, 4-8) to an 11-10 win over visiting Colville (8-6, 5-4). Coty Gale went 2 for 3 with three RBIs for Moscow, and Adam Busch added a two-run, inside-the-park home run in the sixth… . Ben Woodard and Seth Laughlin both went 4 for 6 to lead Cheney (9-4, 5-3) to an 11-2, 11-3 sweep of visiting West Valley (1-12, 1-8).

Kevin Reese and Dan Dixon combined for four hits, three runs and seven RBIs to guide visiting Lakeland (13-4, 8-2) to a 12-2 win and a doubleheader split with Intermountain League leader St. Maries (15-2, 9-1). Pat Eberlin struck out four and Jake Adams had two RBIs to lead St. Maries to a 5-2 win in the opener. Mike Banks struck out six and pitched a four-hitter to win the second game… . Also in the league, Dustin Wardrop and Caleb Troumbley pitched complete games, allowing no earned runs, and Priest River (10-3, 6-3) swept visiting Timberlake (2-11, 1-8). Wardrop, who walked none, had a two-run triple during a five-run first in the 15-3 opener. Troumbley and Timberlake’s Don Cypher both struck out nine in the 5-0 second game. PR’s Adam Collison had three RBIs, three runs and three stolen bases in the first game, and the only RBI in the second game… . Kyle Caty went 4 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs, and Bonners Ferry (7-10, 5-5) defeated visiting Kellogg 9-1 to complete a sweep. Miles Stephens and Andy Way combined for five RBIs and 5-for-7 hitting in the first game, a 12-2 win. Kellogg is 0-10 in league.

Softball

Heidi Oakes had three hits on the day as Lewiston (11-5, 9-3) registered a 4-2, 5-0 sweep over visiting Post Falls (4-7, 2-7) in the Border League… . Also in the Border League, Brooke Brown pitched a six-hitter to guide Colville (9-3, 6-3) to a 12-0 win at Moscow (6-9, 6-8).

Pitchers Kati Carhart and Lisa Fox both went 4 for 4 during Timberlake’s 20-0, 24-4 sweep at Priest River (5-7, 4-6) in the Intermountain League. Molly Tiemeyer and Angie Carhart hit back-to-back homers in the first game for the Tigers (7-6, 6-3)… . Kim Fisher threw a three-hitter and visiting Kellogg (1-9) defeated Bonners Ferry 15-4 for the first win in school history. BF (3-6) won twice on the day, 26-8 and 19-18.
