Lake City Sneaks Into First While Rival Cda Sits Idle

Jihan Anderson (6-0) pitched a five-inning no-hitter Saturday to complete Lake City’s 20-1, 11-0 sweep of visiting Post Falls that put the Timberwolves back in first place in Border League softball.

Anderson struck out seven, walked none and had just two players reach base. Megan Carpenter went 3 for 3 with two runs scored and two runs batted in.

Bobbi Darretta (12-3) pitched a five-inning one-hitter in the opener. Jill Ashkinos went 4 for 4 and finished the day 5 for 5, with six runs and four RBIs.

Lake City (14-3) edged ahead of idle Coeur d’Alene (13-3). Post Falls is 4-10.

Also in the Border League, Laura Tuck took a no-hitter into the sixth and Jessie Crocker totaled two hits, two runs and two RBIs as Moscow (8-10) defeated visiting Sandpoint 10-0 to gain a split. Shasta Burnach pitched a four-hitter and Kinzie Raynor tripled to lead Sandpoint (2-14) to a 1-0 win in the opener.

Teea Stutheit followed Loni Baumann’s two-hitter with a one-hitter, and Lakeland (14-1) swept Bonners Ferry (3-10) 12-2, 18-0 in Intermountain League play at Rathdrum. Kim Jahnsen homered in the opener. Aubrie May went 4 for 4, with two doubles and three runs, and Bobbi Jo Tweedy had a two-run triple in the second game… . Also in the IML, Tammy Addington homered in both games and Lauren Cuvala added a two-run shot in the first game of St. Maries’ 15-1, 25-5 sweep at Priest River (5-9). Tiffany Holdahl singled, doubled and tripled in the second game for the Lumberjacks (8-5)… . Kati Carhart pitched a two-hitter in the opener and Lisa Fox followed with a one-hitter, leading Timberlake (9-3) to a 21-3, 20-0 sweep over visiting Kellogg (1-12). Timberlake’s Molly Tiemeyer singled, doubled and tripled in the opener.

Baseball

T.J. Rider and Kevin Bauerle homered as Lake City (6-11) defeated visiting Post Falls 11-9 to salvage a split in the Border League. Jerome Moss hit a grand slam and the Trojans (5-10) drew 14 walks to win the opener 12-10. PF scored twice in the seventh on squeeze bunts. Steve Algeria had a two-run home run for the Trojans in the second game… . Also in the league, Logan Reichart’s sacrifice fly in the seventh allowed visiting Sandpoint (7-9) to defeat Moscow 6-5 and complete a sweep. Josh Sears went 3 for 4 with three doubles and two RBIs to guide the Bulldogs’ 13-9 win in the opener. Moscow (7-10) had 11 errors on the day.

Trent Duffey struck out 10 and combined with Jake Adams for five hits, three runs and three RBIs as visiting St. Maries (12-1) defeated Priest River 10-0 in the first game of an Intermountain League sweep. The Lumberjacks scored seven in the sixth, aided by three walks and three errors, to win the second game 8-3. Seth Madsen and Ryan Bodecker of the Spartans (7-7) combined for four hits and three stolen bases in the second game… . Also in the league, Dan Dixon had five RBIs in the opener and homered in the second game to highlight Lakeland’s 7-4, 7-3 sweep of Bonners Ferry (5-8) at Rathdrum. Dixon’s homer was the 21st for the Hawks (13-2), who have yet to allow a homer. Jason Thomas (7-0) struck out seven to win the second game, and Jeremy McMillen went 4 for 6 with four runs on the day… . Steve Slinger went 5 for 7 on the day, with five runs and two RBIs, to guide Kellogg’s 9-5, 12-6 sweep at Timberlake in Spirit Lake. Jeff Crawford of the Wildcats (2-11) struck out five in 2 innings of relief in the second game. Don Cypher of Timberlake (1-11) went 3 for 6 on the day with four runs.

Track and field

Moscow senior Jenny Liou broke a pair of personal records at the Cougar Invitational at Washington State University. She ran the 1,600 in 5:14.78, finishing third, and finished second in the 800 in 2:18.86.

The best finish for an Idaho boy was in the shot put, where Doug Cash of Priest River threw 52-1/2 to finish third. He fouled out of the discus. Roger White of Priest River was sixth in the high jump, clearing 6-2.
