Adams County Ritzville
The Ritzville Golf Course will mark its 60th anniversary with a pro-am tournament Aug. 27. It will feature 18 of the Inland Northwest’s PGA professionals, teamed with 54 amateurs. Register early by calling (509) 659-0900.
Ferry County Republic
RHS cheerleaders Megan Crothers and Anna Lockhart have been invited to represent Republic in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York. They must pay their own way and are putting together fund-raisers to make their dream a reality.
Grant County Grand Coulee
The 21-mile stretch of Highway 174 between Grand Coulee and Wilbur is straight as an arrow once the grade is topped. Folks here want the state to raise the speed limit from 55 to 60. The state has always cited “sight distance” as the reason for keeping the road at the lower limit.
Lincoln County Odessa
A public forum on transportation issues in Lincoln, Adams and Grant Counties will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Moses Lake Senior Center. It has been years since the trains stopped in Odessa for passengers, the daily Greyhound to Spokane is a memory, and many rural folks lack transportation to essential services.
Pend Oreille County Newport
Community leaders will get to tour the new Aerocell facility Aug. 11. The aerospace company will start production this month and is testing much of its equipment. Hiring and production information will be announced at the event.
Spokane County Cheney
Kathryn Taylor received the Lyla and Lela Jacklin Geology Scholarship from Washington State University. Taylor, a 1998 graduate of Cheney High School, is also a two-time winner of the Johnson Honors Scholarship.
Stevens County Colville
The local Irish dance troop, the Haran Dancers, recently wowed the critics at an Irish Festival at Boston College. The kids received instruction from some of the world’s leading Celtic dancers, and Caitlin Abeid and Logan Aldous-Worley were chosen to perform in the festival’s finale. Their next performance is their annual Celtic Christmas Show.

Benewah County St. Maries
The St. Maries Public Library will change its Saturday hours starting Aug. 5 to 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Weekday hours remain the same: noon to 7 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays and noon to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays. The library is closed Wednesdays and Sundays. The library is considering a story hour for children.
Bonner County Sandpoint
The county Road Department has put weight restrictions on East Comeback Road, Birch Haven, Spirit Lake Cut Off and Hanley Road until Aug. 7. The department has poured concrete and it will take until then for it to set. Information: (208) 265-1497.

Life Travelers Kid’s Camp is an overnight workshop Aug. 26-27 for youths 6 to 16 who’ve lost a loved one. The third annual Andrew Rypien Memorial Coed Softball Tournament is set for Sept. 8-10 at Quad Park. Andrew, who died at age 4 of cancer, was the son of former football star Mark Rypien. Registration is $125 per team. Call 777-8938. The tournament is open to 56 teams.

Mayor Marshall Comstock proclaimed July 26 as Americans with Disabilities Act Awareness Day. A downtown march last week, “To Boldly Go Where Everyone Else Has Gone Before,” was part of a 10th anniversary celebration of the ADA.
Shoshone County Kellogg
Students who want to take sports in the coming school year should take a physical Thursday at the Mountain Health Care clinic, 740 McKinley Ave. Cost is $15. Coaches will help fill out forms and answer questions.

Lincoln County Libby
A fund-raising golf tournament for St. John’s Lutheran Hospital Foundation raised $10,000 for new surgical equipment. The team of Faye Schoknecht, Brandon Rohrer, Barb Tripp and Peter Lee won the tournament, which drew 72 golfers at the Cabinet View Country Club.
