Books, Films: Banff Fest Guests
Big names in the world of big mountains will headline the speaking engagements scheduled for Banff festivals for mountain books and films this fall.
Tom Hornbein, who was on the 1963 team that first climbed Mount Everest, will join British adventure climber Mick Fowler and legendary aerial photographer and mountaineer Bradford Washburn at the book festival Nov. 1-5.
Reinhold Messner, one of the most influential climbers of all time, will lead the opening-night ceremonies of the Mountain Film Festival Nov. 3 by introducing Maurice Herzog, who chronicled the first ascent of Annapurna 50 years ago. Kitty Calhoun will make a presentation Nov. 4.
The backbone of the festivals is the showing of the year’s best mountain-related films. Advance ticket purchase is highly recommended, since the popular event is virtually sure to sell out.
