Eastern’S New Players Check In For Fall Practice
Freshmen and first-year transfers reported to Eastern Washington University Thursday to begin prepa- rations for Monday’s first day of two-a-day fall football practices.
First-year Eagles coach Paul Wulff will welcome back veteran players from last year’s 7-4 team on Saturday, with the first practice set for 9 a.m. Monday.
Wulff, who was promoted from offensive coordinator and line coach after Mike Kramer left for Montana State at the end of the 1999 season, is expecting 43 letter-winners - including 19 starters - to return from last year’s team, which finished 6-2 and tied for second in the Big Sky Conference standings.
The Eagles have been picked by Big Sky coaches to finish third behind defending champion Montana and Portland State. They open their season at Oregon State on Sept. 2 and play their first home game at Woodward Stadium Sept. 9 against Western Oregon.
Practices, which are scheduled for 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day for the next two weeks, will be held next week on the upper practice fields of the EWU campus in order to accommodate the Seattle Seahawks who will be sharing practice facilities. Following the Seahawks’ departure, the Eagles will move down to their regular practice fields.
Scrimmages have been scheduled for Woodward Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 19, at 3 p.m. and Friday, Aug. 25, at 3 p.m.
