Errors Abound As Spokane Rallies To Win Ferris Grad Matt Sachse Surrenders Four Runs In 1-2/3 Innings, Takes Loss Indians 8 Aquasox 6

Spokane scored four unearned runs in the eighth inning in an 8-6 come-frombehind victory over the Everett AquaSox Friday in a game in which each club committed five errors.

The win moves the Indians one game over .500 and it leaves them only two games back of division-leading Yakima.

The top of the eighth inning was anything but clean, as Everett committed three errors.

Spokane’s Carlos Martinez reached on an error by shortstop Corey Freeman and scored on a single by Ben Cordova. After Jermaine Smiley singled, Everett’s right fielder, Jaime Bubela, overthrew third base and allowed Cordova to tie the game at 6.

Smiley and Jason Herzog each scored on wild pitches by former Ferris High star Matt Sachse.

The Indians (26-25) had scored three runs in the top of the first inning off Everett starting pitcher Aaron Taylor. Cordova hit a two-out, three-run double to left field that rolled to the wall and scored Marco Cunningham, Martinez and Chad Santos.

Taylor lasted 5-2/3 innings, striking out five.

Spokane’s starting pitcher, Ian Ferguson struck out eight in five innings.

Cordova had Spokane’s only RBIs, but they totaled four. He was 2 for 4 at the plate.

Freeman committed two of Everett’s errors.

In the fifth inning, the AquaSox scored three runs with two outs. They also scored three in the sixth.

Everett third baseman Jake Daubert led the AquaSox, going 3 for 4 with one RBI. Teammate Jamal Strong stole his 33rd base of the season.

Spokane’s starting pitcher today at Salem-Keizer will be Joey Baker.
