Paving On Sullivan Should Be Finished Next Week
Work on Sullivan Road should be finished by the time school starts.
The widening project adds a center turn lane to the stretch of Sullivan south of Central Valley High School.
The work on Sullivan between 16th and 32nd avenues began in late March. Paving started this week and is expected to be finished by the end of next week.
“By the first week in September, we ought to be pretty well done,” said Spokane County construction engineer Chad Coles.
School starts for Central Valley students on Sept. 6.
In other Valley construction:
There will be a slight break in road work along Interstate 90 this week.
The state Department of Transportation does not have any repaving work scheduled for the next week, although east-bound lanes will continue to close periodically and unpredictably at Sprague Avenue. Motorists should also expect night lane closures between the Broadway and Argonne interchanges.
Work on the Evergreen interchange and Evergreen Road widening continue on schedule. By mid-September the road should be paved from Broadway north to Mission. The widening of Evergreen from Sprague to Mission is scheduled to be completed at the same time as the interchange in November. Evergreen remains closed during construction.
Work on the Valley Couplet will close northbound Park Road this week between Sprague and Fourth avenues. Thierman Road from Sprague to Second Avenue will be down to one lane with flaggers.
Two short stretches of First Avenue between Thierman to Park and Lewis Road from Sprague Avenue to Second Avenue are also under construction but will remain open this week.
University Road remains closed for sewering and widening from Mission to Main Avenue. It will remain closed to through traffic until fall. The construction includes the Broadway intersection, which remains closed.
Highway 27 repaving has been completed. The shoulders will have some minor work next week, but that shouldn’t cause any delays.
