Spokane Falls Two Games Below .500 With Latest Loss Volcanoes 7 Indians 4

Salem-Keizer proved one thing Monday night at Volcanoes Stadium - it knows how to counterpunch.

The Spokane Indians jumped on top twice in the early innings but the Volcanoes fought back to post a 7-4 Northwest League victory.

The loss drops the Indians (26-28) two games below .500 for the first time this season. Salem-Keizer (27-27) reach the .500 mark with the win.

Spokane jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Jermaine Smiley was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Nick Wilfong, who had three RBIs in the game, tied the score in the bottom of the first with a runscoring double.

The Indians moved out to a 3-1 lead in the top of the second on a solo home run off the bat of Jason Herzog and an RBI single by Chad Santos.

Salem-Keizer took the lead for good in the third with a four-run outburst off Indians starter Zach McClellan (1-2).

Spokane cut the lead to 5-4 in the fifth on a Billy Keppinger sacrifice fly, but once again Salem-Keizer had an answer, pushing across a pair of runs in its half of the inning.

Jon Metzger takes the mound for the Indians tonight in the third game of the five-game series.
