Forgery Bid At Bank Ends In Arrest
A Valley man was arrested on two counts of forgery Monday.
A Bank of America employee called deputies and said a man was trying to cash a check on an account with a hold on it. The suspect had gone to the bank, located at 2716 N. Argonne, earlier that day and tried to cash an even larger check on the same account, according to the Sheriff’s office report.
When deputies called the owner of the account, he said he’d been meaning to close it, but hadn’t gotten around to it. The victim told a deputy he’d thrown several blank checks into the garbage several weeks ago.
The suspect had tried to cash checks for $525 and $975 on the account, according to the Sheriff’s office.
Michael Highwood, 40, 5008 E. Fourth Ave., was booked into the Spokane County jail on two forgery counts, one for each of the checks.
