Students May Get No More Failing Grades
Failing grades are a thing of the past in the city’s public high schools, the School Board has been told.
Instead, Superintendent Joseph Olchefske said Wednesday night, students who don’t pass muster will be given a no-credit mark and allowed to retake the course without any damage to their grade-point average.
Olchefske said the policy change would be more fair and equitable while reducing the number of students who fall short of meeting tough graduation requirements that were adopted by the board in 1997 and take effect for the class of 2001.
