Construction Crews Preparing Liberty Lake Trails

Construction isn’t just for motorists.

Bicyclists and walkers in Liberty Lake will have expanded paths by the end of the construction season.

For the past two weeks a Spokane County construction crew has readied more than a mile of land for trails in Liberty Lake.

Asphalt trails will link sections of Sprague, Molter and Valley Way to already-existing paths in Liberty Lake.

The trails will cost $125,000 and are part of a $650,000 bond passed by Liberty Lake voters in November.

“We’re just trying to get this done as quickly as we can for them,” said county engineering administrator Pat Harper.

Two trails projects are scheduled for next summer. A bicycle bridge will be built over Interstate 90 near Harvard Road. Additionally, trails will be extended along a one-mile stretch of Liberty Lake Road from Country Vista Drive south to Sprague Avenue.

For those vehicles with four wheels, construction will continue around the Valley next week.

Drivers should continue to expect periodic delays on I-90 near the Sprague, Broadway and Argonne interchanges. The Department of Transportation does not have any specific closures planned.

Sullivan Road is open but under construction between 16th and 32nd avenues. The work is scheduled to end by early September.

Evergreen Road remains under construction between Mission and Sprague avenues. The road is closed to through traffic while crews work to widen it. It is scheduled to open in November.

University Road remains closed from Main to Mission avenues. That includes the Broadway intersection. Detours are expected to last until October.

Work on the Valley Couplet will close northbound Park Road from Sprague to Fourth avenues. Thierman will also only be open to local traffic from Sprague to Second avenues. Eastbound Park Road as well as short stretches of First Avenue and Lewis Road are also under construction but remain open.

The couplet is scheduled to open Oct. 15.
