Spokane Offers Rich Dessert Selection

Katelyn Rice, Lakeside

After eating a huge meal at a restaurant, rarely do you have room for dessert. So how do you know where to go for Spokane’s best sweets? I thought I’d help you solve this little dilemma by going out and sampling several yummy desserts from local restaurants.

Of course, there are too many restaurants in Spokane to sample every dessert out there, so I narrowed my restaurants to three: Clinkerdagger, The Ram and Red Robin.

Clinkerdagger is an elegant restaurant with food that fits the atmosphere. Even on a tiny budget, you can still afford dessert. The cheapest is $2.95 and the most expensive is $6.95 (and well worth it).

If you love grandma’s cooking then I suggest the Granny Smith Apple Tart. For those with a wilder side, I say go for Chocolate Indulgence, which will keep your taste buds going back for bite after bite. And for those afraid of calories, order a piece of key lime pie. Clinkerdagger gives money to charity for every pie consumed, and being charitable counteracts calories, you know.

So, wipe the dust off that prom dress or tuxedo, grab a friend and put on the ritz while you’re eating dessert along the Spokane River at Clinkerdagger.

For those of you who can’t stand the thought of squeezing into formal wear to eat dessert, put on some casual clothes and head to The Ram, where one room is filled with television sets tuned to sports stations and another is filled with pool tables, dart boards and arcade games. And I haven’t even mentioned the great desserts. They’re huge, which means you can order one and share it with three or four friends. Try the bread pudding or the carrot cake, which puts other slices of cake to shame. The Ram is right across from the Spokane Arena, so it’s the perfect place to go before a hockey game or concert, as long as you don’t mind crowds.

And lastly, if you’re someone who wants to sit back and relax, Red Robin is the perfect place. Try the delicious Apple Crisp (my personal favorite) or the magnificent Mountain High Mud Pie. The Snickers Cheesecake soothes the taste buds. One of my friends noted that the plates are nicely decorated, making you crave the dessert even more. Don’t forget to ask for a doggie bag, as you’re sure to have dessert left over.

I have just one suggestion: If you plan on ordering more desserts than there are people at your table, ask for extra chairs. You don’t want to look like a pig.
