Audiences Should Sing ‘God Bless America’
To the editor of The Spokesman-Review:
The other night the writer visited Ferris field. Just as the teams took their places in the field to begin the eighth inning, the loud-speaker broke out with “God Bless America.”
In the field the players in their red and blue uniforms stood still, while the audience joined in the song. On the whole, the effect was thrilling and beautiful, with the light pouring down on the players against the green of the ball park, and to my notion, was worth more than the price of admission.
The incident suggested to me that it would be well, at all public gatherings, including picture shows, to pause after a certain time, the audience rising to the tune and singing of this fine patriotic song, especially at this time when the world is shaking with strife and discontent.
