Driver Faces Charges In Crash That Hurt 3

From Staff

Moscow, Idaho, resident Tony L. Saunders, 33, faces charges of felony hit and run, vehicular assault and driving under the influence after a single-vehicle accident in Pullman Tuesday night that sent three people to the hospital.

Police say Saunders ran his small pickup into a railroad crossing arm and its control box at about 7 p.m.

Two of those injured, a man and a 6-year-old girl, were treated and released Tuesday night. The third, an adult woman, is still being treated for a broken jaw and will face surgery.

Saunders, who allegedly fled the accident, was found an hour later in a pea field just outside town after a joint search by the Pullman Police, the Washington State University police, the Whitman County Sheriff’s Department and the Washington State Patrol. He surrendered peacefully, according to reports.
