Hit/Run Suspect Arrested
The driver of a stolen car fled an accident scene in the Spokane Valley on Wednesday, but witnesses chased down the car, then blocked it from moving until deputies arrived.
The incident began at about 5 p.m.
Wednesday when a Toyota Corolla hit a Dodge Caravan from behind at Broadway Avenue and Sullivan Road.
Witnesses saw the driver of the Toyota strike her head on the car’s dash during the collision, then watched her drive away from the scene, westbound on Broadway. The witnesses followed the Toyota to Broadway and Best Road, where they cut it off and prevented it from moving.
A deputy arrived soon after and briefly questioned the driver of the Toyota.
Because the woman had a cut on her forehead, the deputy summoned paramedics, who transported her to the hospital for treatment. Neither the driver of the Dodge nor her passenger were uninjured in the collision.
Because he had learned that the Toyota had been reported stolen from a home in Spokane in May, and because he suspected the driver of the Toyota was under the influence of drugs, the deputy followed to the hospital and also called in a Sheriff’s Office drug officer.
They interviewed the woman after she had been treated and then arrested her.
According to the Sheriff’s Office report, Kelly R. Dixon, 29, 358 S. Pierce, was booked into Spokane City-County Jail on charges of driving under the influence of drugs, hit and run, driving with a suspended license and possession of a stolen vehicle. Dixon also was booked on an outstanding warrant for second-degree theft.
