Letters To The Editor

Thanks for help

I would like people to know there are still good Samaritans.

On July 31, I was returning from visiting a friend at the hospital.

I stopped for the traffic light at Pines and Sprague. My car died and I couldn’t get it started again.

It was on the corner just outside the Walgreen’s drug store.

I am 67 years old and have no mechanical abilities with cars.

I went into Walgreen’s to ask if I could use the phone. As I was looking for a number, a clerk came up and said they would move my car out of the street. It was close to 100 degrees outside, but they pushed the car into their parking lot.

While they were doing this, a clerk dialed five different numbers for me so that I could get someone to help me.

I want them to know how much I appreciate what they did for me. Gloria Kelly Spokane

Support Soap Box Derby

What a thrill to learn that the Soap Box Derby will be held in the Spokane Valley (Valley Voice, Aug. 17).

As a kid in Phoenix, I raced in the derby. What a thrill! Most every kid in town wanted to race in it.

I don’t want to criticize anyone or any organization, but a whole lot needs to be done in order to bring this derby up to the standard it should be for a city as large as Spokane.

Let’s all get behind these Soap Box Derby races here in the Valley on Sept. 9 and 10 by attending this great event for kids.

It will be on the Skipworth Road hill immediately west of Bowdish Junior High. The races will start about 8 a.m. and run until 5 or 6 p.m. both days.

Mark your calendar now.

Most of the kids will be thankful for your support. Robert R. Smith Spokane
