Bad Special Effects Kill ‘Godzilla’
“Godzilla 2000” (Rated PG)
What do sunburns, bikini wax, family vacations and “Godzilla 2000” all have in common? They’re the most dreaded parts of summer.
Sure, sunburns and bikini wax are avoidable, and family vacations, if unavoidable, usually don’t turn out that bad. But being forced to sit through “Godzilla 2000” really was torture. If I hadn’t been reviewing this movie, I would have walked out of the theater after the first five minutes.
Every aspect of the movie is a joke. The plot (if you can call it that) is a small part of the film and is centered around Godzilla and a flying rock that turns out to be a UFO. The aliens inside the UFO want to suck Godzilla’s power because he can regenerate cells at remarkable speed. Much of the movie is spent watching Godzilla and the alien creature fight.
The special effects are old and pathetic and most of the humor in the movie is due to the worst possible dubbing. Sadly, the few touching parts are laugh-out-loud funny because of the cheesy script and lame acting.
But the saddest thing of all is that someone would choose to spend money to see this terrible movie.
