Signs That Summer Is Over

Jennifer Kassner, Shadle

10. Your parents have filled the living room with school paper.

9. Your brother comes home with a haircut reminiscent of a U.S. Marine.

8. Your dreams involve being at school.

7. Your mom makes you practice eating cold lunches at the kitchen table.

6. Your dog starts fetching your backpack instead of his ball.

5. You pick up a pencil to practice writing things down.

4. Your parents actually want your friends to call with plans to get you out of the house.

3. You no longer consider a family vacation unappealing - even though it means eight hours trapped in a car with your little sister.

2. Your family stops heading to the frozen-food section of the grocery store to cool down.

And the No. 1 sign that summer is over: Your local Dairy Queen runs out of ice cream.
