Families Can Get Heating Assistance
Spokane Neighborhood Action Programs will be accepting 1,000 appointments today for winter energy assistance.
The Spokane nonprofit agency coordinates a federal program that provides more than $300 on average in heating assistance to low- and moderate-income families.
About 35,000 Spokane families qualify, said SNAP spokeswoman Julie Graham. The agency has already accepted 1,000 families. In addition to arranging appointments Thursday, SNAP will be accepting 1,000 more families in January.
Appointments are on a first-come basis, beginning at 8:30 a.m., and can be arranged at SNAP offices at the Northeast Community Center, 4001 N. Cook; the East Central Community Center, 500 S. Stone; and downtown at 212 S. Wall.
