Fire Leaves 11 Homeless

A family of 11 was left homeless Tuesday when a fire destroyed a mobile home in Stevens County, said Brad Martin, deputy chief of Stevens County Fire District 1.

Fire crews were called to the home off Cemetery Road south of Springdale at about 12:45 p.m.

The home, inhabited by Don Vanderholm, his wife and their nine children, was fully engulfed when units arrived. The home was destroyed, Martin said.

The family believes the fire may have been started by a wood-burning stove, Martin said.

The Red Cross is aiding the family, and a charitable fund has been created. Anyone interested in helping the family can go to any Bank of America branch and ask about the Don Vanderholm fund.
