Support Encouraged For Railway Service

From Staff

Proponents of a passenger rail line through here are urging residents and politicians to support the idea.

The proposed line would connect Spokane and Denver through Missoula. Thirteen stops - including Helena, Bozeman, Livingston and Laurel - would mark the 1,250-mile route.

But supporters fear Amtrak will back out if there is no public support.

A petition drive to support the rail line has already gathered 6,000 signatures statewide and 500 at the University of Montana, said Michael Ackley, vice president of the Montana-Wyoming Association Railway Passengers.
