Tsunami To Provide Area Web Service

Tsunami Communications will take over as Internet provider for about 150 residential customers in Medical Lake, Four Lakes and Cheney, the company said.

Those subscribers were told six weeks ago they faced the loss of that service. ISP Channel of San Francisco, which now offers $39-per-month cable modem service, announced it will stop serving the West Plains area on Jan. 1.

Tsunami is a Spokane-based network provider that has provided several area apartment complexes with wireless Internet service.

Those West Plains customers will pay the same rate for cable modem access, said Tsunami President Michael Funk.

The company is also discussing providing broadband cable service to Eastern Washington University’s campus dorms. The roughly 1,000 students in EWU dorms have relied on ISP Channel for Internet access.

The university hopes to announce soon which company will provide student Internet access, said EWU spokesman Rick Romero.
