A Frigid Blast From The Arctic

Next week Spokane may get the coldest blast of arctic air since February 1996.

A front that will move through Spokane during the weekend will bring cold air with it from Montana, British Columbia and North Idaho, said Paul Bos, a National Weather Service meteorologist from Spokane.

The cool-down likely will begin Sunday, with the coldest temperatures hitting the area Monday and Tuesday mornings, he said.

The weather service predicts highs will be in the teens Monday and Tuesday, with lows that will range between 5 and minus 5 degrees. The record lows for those days, set in 1922, are minus 9 and minus 15.

“It will probably last at least through midweek,” Bos said. “It’s going to be cold.”
