Antique Carousel Donated To Seattle Zoo
A Seattle couple has donated an antique carousel to Woodland Park Zoo.
The 82-year-old carousel featuring 48 intricately hand-carved horses could make its debut late next year.
It will be housed in a planned $1.5 million building on the zoo’s north meadow. The building is part of a fund-raising drive by the Woodland Park Zoological Society.
Longtime carousel preservationists Tom and Linda Allen donated the 50-foot-diameter carousel, which is valued at $1 million. It was built by the Philadelphia Toboggan Co., a well-known carousel maker, in 1918 for the Cincinnati Zoo.
