Man Beaten In Traffic Dispute
A 22-year-old Spokane Valley man was severely beaten Monday night after a traffic dispute.
The victim told sheriff’s deputies that the passengers of another car threw something at his driver-side window as he passed them on Argonne Road at 11:40 p.m. Monday.
The window shattered, said Cpl. David Reagan, Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
The man then followed the car - described as a red four-door Ford Tempo or Mercury Contour with tinted windows and a rear spoiler - to the intersection of Appleway Boulevard and Vista Road.
There, three white males got out of the car. When he saw that one was armed with a pipe and another with a baseball bat, the man tried to drive away, but the two began beating him, said Reagan.
The victim drove his car into the side of a business in the 200 block of South Vista Road trying to escape.
The victim was hit 10 to 20 times before the men got back in their car and left.
The victim flagged down a private security guard who contacted the Sheriff’s Office.
Paramedics on scene said the victim had suffered numerous blows to the head and likely had a broken thumb. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The men who beat him were described as between 18 and 20 years old. One was about 5-foot-7 with a stocky build and blue eyes. He wore a dark stocking cap and baggy jeans. Another had a mustache and was wearing a baseball cap.
The victim told deputies he believed there might have been a fourth male and a female who remained inside the vehicle.
